Yesterday evening, we had a hastily arranged trip out with our good friend Kit Dunne who runs http://www.wicklowboatcharters.com It was just a few hours in the evening and it was great to be out with friends again.
Within a short time of leaving the harbour, Kit was anchoring up over the mark. We were using traces of about six to eight feet snood of 200lb mono that Kit had showed us. The mono doesn’t kink up like the wire and as long as you check it regular for abrasion it’s fine. These were fished from booms and 6/0 hook.
With only limited time we might not even get them but with the first bait in the water only minutes and the rod tore off. It was an excellent fight off this first fish and I was delighted to be connected to one again.
Kit netted the fish and I was soon admiring one of my favourite species up close again. With pictures taken it was quickly released.
The kettle was put on and more fishing talk ensued with the usual dose of banter. With tea made, I was only getting my lips on the mug when the rod went again. After another scrappy fight we our second tope aboard. A few pics again and the fish went back it was a similar size to the first.
With clock ticking we just had one more dropped run before it was time to head home.
Wicklow is only a short drive from Dublin, and with such excellent fishing and a great skipper, why not drop down for a full day, half or evening trip with Kit. You will have a great day…
