I awoke yesterday morning at five am to Aidan ringing the door bell, I had slept it out. I managed to get out the door without waking anybody up and we were soon on our way to a midland lake.

We arrived and got set up for the day and waited for the sun to come up. This time we were splitting up with the two of us fishing a couple of hundred metres away from each other.

As the sun came up, there was plenty of small fishing topping all around the lake.

There wasn’t a breeze blowing and the sun was starting to heat us up a bit. After about an hour I had a few beeps on the alarm which amounted to nothing but it was enough to have me pacing up and down!

About an hour later Aidan gave me a call asking did I want tea he was boiling the kettle? I was fucking dying for a cup of tea, I couldn’t feel my feet but I told him I’d was grand, still haunted by them few beeps earlier I wasn’t leaving the rods.

More time passed before I could hear the distant sound of an alarm, Aidan was into a fish. I made my way down to where he was fishing and he was just bringing in a fish. The fish weighed 10.9lb and looked gorgeous in the winter sun which was getting lower at this stage. We took a couple of pics and Aidan put the fish back.

I made my way back to my rods hoping I would get one in the last hour or so but is wasn’t to be, and then as I sat there it hit me…….. I could have made the tea while I was down there!

Anyhow with the light now going we packed up and hit the road for home, already looking forward to the next one….
