River pike

It was the first cold snap of the autumn and it was time to get out the pike rods .Unfortunately paddy could not make it this time so me and joe headed off with high hopes , we arrived at the mark and it was still dark so preceeded to get our gear together and head off.by the time we reached the mark it was already getting bright so we wasted no time in setting up our rods , with one rod each in the water we started to set up our second rods but before we could even join the spigots joes rod got a nice run he picked up the rod and lifted into what would be the first fish of the session

No sooner had joe released the fish and aidan’s rod got a take and he leaned into another hard fighting fish

With aidan releasing his fish shortly after joes rod went again and before long the third fish was landed

So all in all we had three fish on the bank in less than an hour we seemed to be off to a flyer so with both rods in the water aidan decided to stick the kettle on and have a cuppa and some freshly fried sausages mmmmm the action slowed down for a while until around noon when one of joes rod’s got a take so he picked up the rod and lifted into what seemed like a good fish but unfortunately the fish managed to get off grrrr so after several cups of tea and coffee joes rod went again and he leaned into another hard fighting fish

Not long after joe had returned his fish and one of aidan’s rods began to get single beeps so aidan picked up the rod and lifted into what seemed like a good fish but unfortunately the fish managed to get off so with the light quickly fading aidan baited up again and recasted hoping that the fish would return . So while we were mulling over the day we had aidan’s rod got a blistering run and he picked up the rod and opened the bail arm and felt the line peel off the reel eventually the fish came to a halt and aidan closed the bail arm and wond into the fish the water erupted and the pike showed her power by emerging from the water and making a powerful run ripping braid from the spool making that sweet sound only braid can but eventually aidan controlled the fish and landed her

With the pike safely returned it was time to pack up and head home . Hope to return soon I’ve a feeling that this mark could produce a proper lump .
